Just for the record.
Our dads were both stationed in Hawaii for our senior year and Matt lived just a couple houses down. We both enjoyed comic books and storytelling a great deal and for our art project we each did half a comic book. I still remember one day (more?) that we somehow convinced our parents that we should stay home from school to work on our comic book over at his house. Man that was fun.
Last Friday I went to Borders and picked up a copy of The Clockwork Three which is a brand new book by Matt. Now I admit that I felt like I had to get it- I mean, he is my friend. The story started out with me trying to figure out whether I was going to enjoy it. There are three main characters and Matt does a great job of weaving the separate lives of the main characters, who haven’t met before, into a cohesive and believable group of friends. I can’t remember when it happened in the story, but at some point I actually said out loud “Oh no!” and then realized Matt had done it- I cared about these kids.
This book doesn’t fit into a certain niche. It was an adventure with a lot of suspense, a smattering of the fantastic, and some really fun characters. I think you’ll enjoy it even if you’re not Matt’s friend. Go read it.
